How long is a first aid certificate valid for in the UK?

Your first aid certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. The HSE strongly recommends an annual half-day refresher to keep skills current between full requalifications. Before your certificate expires you'll need either the 2-day FAW Requalification (existing FAW holders) or the full 3-day FAW course (if your certificate has already lapsed).

What's the difference between EFAW and FAW?

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is a 1-day course for low-risk workplaces — offices, retail, hospitality. It covers CPR, choking, bleeding, shock and unconsciousness. First Aid at Work (FAW) is a 3-day course for medium and high-risk workplaces — manufacturing, construction, warehousing — and adds injuries to bones, muscles and joints, head/spinal injuries, burns, eye injuries, poisoning and major medical conditions like heart attack, stroke, diabetes and asthma.
