    1. Statement of Intent

    Our Commitment

    Brity Group Limited trading as Brity is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, trainers, learners, and visitors. We recognise that effective health and safety management is essential to the success of our business and the wellbeing of everyone we work with.

    We comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all relevant subordinate legislation. We will, so far as is reasonably practicable:

    • Provide and maintain safe working environments, equipment, and systems of work
    • Ensure all materials and substances are handled, stored, and used safely
    • Provide adequate information, instruction, training, and supervision
    • Consult with employees on matters affecting their health and safety
    • Regularly review and update this policy to ensure continued effectiveness
    • Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and approved codes of practice

    2. Scope

    This policy applies to:

    • All employees and directors of Brity Group Limited
    • All freelance and associate trainers delivering courses on our behalf
    • All learners attending our training courses
    • Visitors to our premises or training venues
    • Contractors and suppliers working on our behalf

    This policy covers all locations where we conduct business, including our offices, public training venues, client premises, and virtual training environments.


    3. Responsibilities

    Chief Executive Officer / Employer
    • Overall responsibility for health and safety within the organisation
    • Ensuring adequate resources are allocated for health and safety measures
    • Appointing competent persons to assist with health and safety duties
    • Reviewing and approving this policy annually
    • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation
    Trainers & Assessors
    • Conducting venue safety checks before each training session
    • Briefing learners on emergency procedures at the start of each course
    • Ensuring practical activities are conducted safely and within learner capabilities
    • Reporting any hazards, incidents, or near misses promptly
    • Maintaining their own competence through regular training updates
    • Stopping any activity they consider unsafe
    Learners
    • Following all safety instructions given by trainers
    • Using equipment correctly and only for its intended purpose
    • Reporting any health conditions that may affect their participation
    • Not engaging in any activity likely to endanger themselves or others
    • Reporting any hazards or concerns to the trainer immediately
    Clients Providing Venues
    • Ensuring the venue meets our minimum safety requirements
    • Providing adequate space, lighting, and ventilation
    • Informing us of any venue-specific hazards or procedures
    • Ensuring appropriate welfare facilities are available

    4. Risk Assessment

    We conduct risk assessments to identify hazards and implement appropriate control measures. Our risk assessment process includes:

    • Generic risk assessments for all standard training activities
    • Venue-specific assessments for each training location
    • Dynamic risk assessments conducted by trainers on the day
    • Special assessments for new or unusual activities
    • Regular review and updates of all risk assessments

    All risk assessments are documented and available for review. They are updated whenever there are significant changes to our activities, following an incident, or at least annually.


    5. Venue Safety

    Before any training session, we ensure the venue meets our safety requirements. Brity Group Limited is responsible for ensuring the training environment is safe for learning. Venue owners are responsible for structural safety, fire systems, and general building safety.

    Physical Environment

    Adequate space (minimum 2m² per learner where practical and appropriate), suitable floor covering for CPR practice, appropriate temperature and ventilation

    Emergency Provisions

    Clear emergency exits, visible fire extinguishers, accessible first aid facilities, known assembly points

    Welfare Facilities

    Access to toilet facilities, drinking water, and adequate break areas

    Accessibility

    Suitable access for all learners, including those with mobility requirements

    Minimum Venue Safety Checklist
    • Adequate first aid provision onsite
    • Clear signage and unobstructed exits
    • No visible trip hazards
    • Adequate seating and space for practical exercises
    • Confirmation of venue insurance and liability cover (if applicable)

    6. Practical Training Activities

    CPR & Resuscitation
    • Floor mats provided for knee protection
    • Manikins cleaned and sanitised between uses
    • Alternative positions offered for those unable to kneel
    Casualty Simulation
    • Voluntary participation in role-play scenarios
    • Clear boundaries established for physical contact
    • Trauma-informed approach to scenarios involving distressing content
    Equipment Handling
    • All equipment regularly inspected and maintained
    • Correct techniques demonstrated before learner practice
    • Training defibrillators clearly marked as non-functional
    PPE & Hygiene
    • Use of PPE (gloves, wipes) during practical sessions
    • Hand hygiene required before and after practice activities
    • Individual face shields provided for manikin use
    Infectious Disease Response

    We reserve the right to adjust delivery methods and health controls in response to public health guidance (e.g., COVID-19, influenza outbreaks) to protect learners and staff.

    Health Declarations

    Learners with health conditions that may affect their ability to participate safely (e.g., knee problems, heart conditions, pregnancy) should inform the trainer at the start of the course. Reasonable adjustments will be made where possible.


    7. First Aid Provision

    As a first aid training provider, we ensure appropriate first aid arrangements are in place at all times:

    • All trainers hold a current first aid qualification
    • A fully stocked first aid kit is available at every training session
    • Trainers carry personal first aid supplies when travelling
    • AED locations are identified at public training venues
    • Emergency contact information is readily available
    In an Emergency

    In the event of a medical emergency during training, the trainer will take charge, administer appropriate first aid, and call emergency services if required. All incidents will be documented and reported.


    8. Incident Reporting

    What to Report
    • Any injury to a learner, trainer, or visitor
    • Near misses that could have resulted in injury
    • Dangerous occurrences or unsafe conditions
    • Work-related ill health
    • Equipment failures or damage
    Reporting Process
    • Immediate verbal report to the Chief Executive Officer
    • Written incident report within 24 hours
    • Investigation conducted for all significant incidents
    • RIDDOR reports made where legally required
    • Lessons learned shared to prevent recurrence
    RIDDOR

    Certain incidents must be reported to the Health and Safety Executive under RIDDOR. The Chief Executive Officer will assess whether an incident meets RIDDOR reporting criteria and will make the report to HSE where required.


    9. Fire Safety

    • Trainers identify and communicate fire exits and assembly points at the start of every session
    • Fire escape routes are kept clear at all times
    • Trainers are trained in fire safety awareness and evacuation procedures
    • Any fire safety concerns are reported to the venue and documented
    In Case of Fire

    In the event of a fire alarm, trainers will lead an orderly evacuation to the designated assembly point and account for all learners. Training will not resume until the all-clear has been given by the venue's responsible person or emergency services.


    10. Lone Working

    Trainers often work alone at client venues. We have measures in place to manage lone working risks:

    • Check-in procedure at the start and end of each training day
    • Trainers carry mobile phones with emergency contact numbers programmed
    • Journey management for travel to unfamiliar or remote locations
    • Risk assessment of venues includes consideration of lone working risks
    • Trainers are empowered to leave any situation where they feel unsafe

    11. Equipment & Materials

    • Regular inspection and maintenance of all equipment
    • Manikins and face shields cleaned and sanitised between uses
    • Equipment replaced when worn or damaged
    • Safe manual handling practices when transporting equipment
    • COSHH assessments for any cleaning chemicals or substances used
    • Equipment stored securely when not in use

    12. Review

    This policy is reviewed annually, or sooner if there are significant changes to our operations, following a serious incident, or when new legislation requires it.

    The next scheduled review is January 2027.
